Course Selection #1:  The Essential Course in Research
Cost:  $300/person – 2.5 hr session. ($150 for each additional person.)

Session Outline: 
The Essential Course  is the foundation for conducting successful prospect research.

The Essential Course in Resarch is designed for researchers and/or development professionals with up to three (3) years experience. The essential course will take participants through the following topics:

  • Conducting prospect research: In a "real-world" environment. The session includes research covering biographical, career, charitable giving/foundations, board affiliations, and introduction to wealth assessment.
  • The best sites for prospect research: In-depth exploration of both paid and free sites for research.
  • Developing a prospect profile for your organization (individuals, corporations, foundations).
  • What information should you collect during research, and why collect it.
  • Perfecting your search techniques: Using “query modifiers” to maximize and refine searches and results.
  • Analyzing and articulating your research results.
  • Questions & answer session

Who should take this training...
  • If you have less than three years research experience, have never received hands-on research training, or need to hone basic resesarch skills.
  • This session is designed to provide solid entry to mid-level prospect research training.
  • This is not an advanced course, but requires an understanding of the fundraising function and basic Internet usage.

Requirements:
  • Preferrably two computers - one with Skype (Windows) or Face Time (Mac) access for the visual discussion, and one with high-speed web access to conduct actual research. Training session can be conducted with one computer; however, Skype or Face Time is required.
  • Microsoft Word
  • Knowledge and comfort with basic Internet functionality and search techniques

  • Pay for your webinar through Paypal, or request to be invoiced. Payment must be made prior to the training session.
  • Via email you will receive a confirmation of your training session, and a survey. Complete the brief survey and return via email.  (This information will help create a session customized to the group in attendance.)
  • A week prior to your training session, you will be contacted to insure you have the necessary equipment and software in place, and answer any questions you may have.
  • You're ready for training!
  • We will interact throughout the webinar via the web and Skype!

Important!

  • Due to prep requirements, webinars are non-refundable within seven (14) days of the scheduled session.
  • Training is best conducted using two computers - one for Skpe (visual) and one for actual research.
